This plan was conceived for the rethinking of the historical center of Milan. The proposal was absolutely striking for the epoque, probably the strongest and most innovative in that competition.
The project consists of an infinite series of lines of low-rising buildings, a new way of producing the density of the city centre. Is that a solution? Huge demolitions of the so called “uninteresting” historical heritage were foregone, while iconic monuments were included in voids cut from the infinite grid.
NEW YORK CITY VISION COMPETITION | Rezoning Manhattan, F. Furiassi
”So, if the private space becomes public and vice versa, the resulting image of the city is the following: the built up land is liberated into a traversable territory which can be re-configurated according to the community needs; the infrastructure grid becomes available for building and eventually extruded for mixed use functions; while Central Park is possibly invaded by skyscrapers.”
